Me, Lil Bow'd, and AJ showed up at JBT at 6:15 and registered for the tourney. Headed to Ecky and started fishin bout 7:15 or so. AJ lost one helluva trout right at the boat shortly after we started that would have put us in the money. Bite was pretty good early, we boated a 20.75, 19.75, and 18.5 in short order. By 9am the bite died. We fished in close 2.5', then 3' to 4', then 5' and nothing. Moved just west of Aucilla and AJ put a 19.5 in the boat near the end of a 30 minute drift. Had a big trout blow up on a Top Dog but could not make the connection. Tried a few more short drifts then headed back east to the area we started in. Boated at 17" trout early in the drift and a 16" shortly thereafter. Fished hard up until we had to head in but no big kicker to help us out. Congrats to Steve, Butch and Jr for their nice catch. Also, congrats to everyone that braved the heat to fish in the tourney. As hard as we fished, I'm proud of our 5th place finish. Lil' Bow'd and AJ hung in tough with me even though the bite was sloooooooow to make it happen. Gold Redfin, Gold SkitterWalk, nuclear chicken salt water assasin and new penny gulp under a CT were the baits of choice.
Great job guys. Thank you so much for letting us follow you out of Ecky . Now that we have the trail marked, and we know we can get our boat in and out without damage I think we will fish the area more.
