St Marks River 12-22-03 First Day of Winter

Post by Fisherman989 »

Went to St Marks today. Arrived at the old fort to a low-low river. No trouble launching. Went up river past the power plant. First place we stopped....right past the tied up barge....was the best place of the day. Jigs were what they wanted....and that's what they got. We caught probably 15 within the first hour....not a keeper....lots 14-1/2....some 14 7/8....but not a 15 in. one.
Fishing slowed down after the tide started coming in....and eventually stopped. Went up 1/2 way to the bridge at least....a few here and there but not a keeper all day. Left about mid afternoon with zero in the icebox.
Talked with one boat that had been to Aucilla early in the A.M. No water in the river with the low tide at 0719...but bad reports from the day before. Hardly any fish caught in Aucilla the day before (Dec 21)
If all these little trout live till next year....but.....I said that last year.
My fever is as cold as the 28degrees we had this morning.

Better luck next time on the keepers, at least you were out there.

Just write it up as hook setting practice. Style perfecting. Style don't eat worth a flip fried though, does it? :(
