Panacea 6-10

Post by bman »

Headed out early this morning with dad. We were trying to beat the heat and the storms.
Uncommon for me I didn't pull out the camera so I hope you enjoy the story anyway.

A quick stop into Advantage Marine for some necessities and we were at the landing by 6:30.
A tall dark thunderhead was looming but we could not tell exactly where it was going.
As we rounded the last bend of the channel a waterspout greeted us!
It was well off shore but just the look of it and the sky made dad and I both nervous.
I offered, Why don't we just watch it and see what direction its moving...
I could tell my his expression we were running back in.

A half an hour or so at the marina chatting and having a snack.
We watched the radar and the couple of small storm cells began to break up.

Back in the water, back out the channel... now its approaching the top of the tide.
So much for getting out there early. Its already hot.
We decide to start close in an area that has held reds and trout.

A few casts into it with the Chug Bug and I have a red on!
24" and its in the cooler... Redfish for dinner!!

A few casts later I start into trout.. A couple in the box and dad is starting to stew a bit.
As is our practice I rub it in... as I'm mouthin off he gets a nice hit on top water.
Sail Cat I say... Nope- a twin to my red! Its in the net and in the box.
Now Mom and Pop are having Redfish for dinner!

We fish on catching ladies and trout- mostly shorts.
The heat starts to build and by 11 its really getting miserable.
I'm melting but don't want to admit it. Dad suggests trolling for some Spanish and I agree.

We start trolling and what do I catch- Lady fish... well so much for that.
We decide to start in as we are running I see a school of something busting the heck out of glass minnows.
I cast in and fish on- Lady, take it off cast again fish on, lady, cast, fish, repeat, cast, fish, repeat
Must have been a huge school and it was fun. They were giving their regular acrobatics in spades.
I embraced the poor man's tarpon and didn't look back!

While we are having fun with the girls we start seeing the clouds building.
Looks like a good time to pack it up.
A look at the marina radar and we left about the perfect time.
Ended up with Two nice reds & a handful of trout- noting huge but good eating fish.

Home, fish cleaned and cooling off in the pool by 2.
Great morning with Dad.

Not a bad day at all Bman. Did you see the PVC pipe I asked you about?

Yea I noticed it. It markes the end of the old dock... It ran right to the edge of the ramp.
So stay to the HookWrecks side of that pipe.
There are still some old pilings in the water between that post and the edge of the ramp.
They are suppose to dive and cut the off.... Wouldn't want that job.

Sure sounds like you worked the conditions just right  Life is very good to provide you the experiences and be able to share them with your Dad. Don't take it for granted. :D

Nice job Barry....and pop too  This heat is definately not making fishing late morning/early afternoon too desirable right now....however, I still have to work in it, just wish I had time to fish in it :smt010 I put the bimini top back on the Glastron the other day hoping to get out soon....it's a step in the right direction  Now, I just got to get the scheduling part down
