Wanted: Top for Boat

Post by Flint River Pirate »

Does anyone have a top for a center console for sale? I just bought a Key West 1720CC and I would like to put a top on it. The sun seems hotter this year. Thanks!

Go to Walmart and purchase a good quality large cover for a gas grill. You can find a size that will fit right over the console and works better than a magic charm. Be sure to secure with a couple of bungee cords if trailering so it doesn't fly off. You'll spend about $35.

To be honest I think you will find a t-top to be too big for that boat. It would make the back deck completely unusable for casting.

You don't want a t-top on a 17' boat.

I have a 21' bay boat and the T-top gets in the way if you are in the back of the boat casting or setting the hook. Kinda gets in the way if you are on the bow too and casting straight out. Buy a bimini top.

Buy sunscreen and cold beer. Both do wonders for the sun and heat and are much less expensive than a T top!!

Best thing I have found is a thing called the Anchorshade.($ 150-175) I mounted the pole it comes with right through my center console right behind the windshield. It works fine by itself if the wind is light (5-10), and if it picks up, I just use the straps that come with it. I even troll with it up....

On cloudy days, I just leave it off. I will try to get photos of how I mounted it in my boat.

6 foot by 6 foot coverage (better than a T-top) and easy to take off when not needed.

Here is what comes, the umbrella, a case, and a mount pole
Image

I mounted the pole by drilling a 1 inch hole through the top of the console. I use that chrome plug when I am not using the umbrella.
Image

Here is a pic of how I mounted the bottom of the pole. I mounted the coupler to the tray with some stainless screws, then I drilled a hole through the coupler and pole, and put a 1/4 SS bolt through to keep it in place.
Image

Here is a photo of it up on the boat. You can adjust it up and down to suit you by the adjusting knob on the pole...

Werks fer me!!!
