Aucilla 6/19/08

Post by DixieReb »

Got a day off from work and wanted to fish, so me and Jim headed to Aucilla. Got there at 8 am, ran straight out on the 1.7 ft. rising tide . Tried the mouth, drifted out from it and no fish, couple slaps on the topdogs but no hookups, Went east to a submerged bar and fished all around it, 2 short groupas was all that bit. Water is unusually stained over there, didn't like the color so we went up close to shore for some more topwater. Saw something crashing bait and went over, first cast on the she-dog and a big jack inhales it. Nice one but that's all we got there, did see a huge bull shark run out of a creek and under the boat. :o Maybe that's why the bite stopped? Got tired of that about 11 am and went west looking for trout. Water looked much better, found some spotty bottom in 5-6 ft and caught a few, the bite never really cranked up good. very little water movement didn't help much, about 1 pm a breeze kicked in and it was more comfortable. Man, it's hot out there right now! :smt011 Moved around to several places and ended up with 4 keeper trout to 19'' (woulda been 5 but I let #5 get off at boatside! Wife says I need ta get over it, but still mad.), 3 sharks(kept one) 2 black bass 12'', a sailcat, and the biggest jolthead I ever saw, about a pound. Jim also got a nice 26'' cobia out in the deep water on a jig, took pics and released. Those guys don't like a landing net, he looked ready to scoop up, and every time I showed the net he dove deep and ran. He was hooked in the throat so we cut the line and let him keep the hook, swam off ok. Got fish on different color gulp, some on live pins under CT rig. Not a great day for catching but good company, weather was great and nothing broke. BB-Q at Sonny's topped it off. :lick: Nine hours fishing is a long time, haven't been out there that long in a while!

You got your string stretched. The jacks and the cobes are a fun fight.
What was I supposed to do today?
