6/22 St Marks/lighthouse

Post by procraftwes »

I put in at Shell Island at around 6:30am and haul it to the lighthouse. Water was smooth as I could ask for in my lil boat... go about 3 red buoys past the lighthouse where we were tearing them up last monday and troll back towards the grass.. we caught some pinfish and started fishing caught a few sailcats so I moved south a little then around 8-9 we were on the fish but just couldn't get them trout to do anything but nibble.. My buddy is catching sharks at this point and I’m trying to set the hook on what seems like ghost fish then I hook up with a tiny grouper maybe 10"...Then storms are brewing so I’m going to run into the lighthouse launch and find shelter and it just unloads on us.. By the time I get to the shelter its done and skies are clear... After that the bite was horrible and we caught about 6 cats then my g/f hooked into a decent bluefish but I let him go... I move from live/cut bait to topwater and on the 3rd cast hook up with a monster trout he jumps shakes the hook :smt012 then we notice more storms and about every boat in the gulf is making a run for it.. So we pack up and haul.. Get stuck behind a 40+ cruiser and I’m afraid of his wake lighting crashes about 1/4 mile away... I say f-it trim up and head towards the wake and the boat wont climb it so I give it alot of gas and make it over dry... What a rush I think. when we get back to the no wake zone I look behind me and there’s a damn pontoon coming at full speed :smt011 I get pissed and finally move over and he fly’s by :smt012 I consider shooting him the 1 finger salute but decide otherwise. So I get the launch perfect timing pontoon hillbilly is up to launch... Then proceeds to back his pontoon into the mud and woods... I chuckle hard and watch... Just as he pulls away a storm unleashes its unholy fury of rain and what felt like some hail... Its cold I’m soaked and finally get the boat on the trailer only to find that my friend decided to leave his line out and I’m loading I hear drag WTF turn around and I’ve got his line all in my prop.. Great this ought to be fun so there I am in pouring rain...cutting line out of my prop.. Cut my finger on the prop while trying to get the line out... my g/f gives me a look as I bleed all over. And in spite of all this I still have a smile on my face and think I can’t wait to do this again. So we all get in the car and say so who’s off wed. for round 2...call in and make some scheduling changes and were back at it wed. It was a learning experience and I wouldn't change a thing that happened today..

Sounds like fun, even with the rain. Go try 'em again!
