What will a cigar-shaped CT do for me...

...that an egg-shaped one won't?

Is it just about being subtle? Or is there something else?

The fish will feel a little less drag when he takes the bait...
And will probably hold on a little longer giving you more time to set the hook.

No. It'll cast further usually. But less visible at distance and in heavy chop! It gets into existentialism when considering the subtle aspects -- cigar will make less surface splash but has as much brass ball click (supposedly the click(s) a shrimp makes) -- prolly depends on whether you want (or need) to fish mostly with balls or splash with your popper-dingy! :smt104

The cigar shape is more subtle, less noise and works best in calmer waters when less commotion is necessary.
It is great for the DOA shrimp and other smaller baits that are usually necessary in the warmer temp waters.
The fish are more lethargic in the warmer water. They will come up and take a smaller less erratic bait just to sustain themselves. They are not active enough to chase a big bait right now. They tire too easily.
Flick it. Leave it alone. Flick it, leave it alone. The fish will come.

oh.... and not to take money out of babies mouths or anything.... but the knock off "reddie float" available at the devil mart is every bit as good and durable as the cajun thunder. and half the price or less.

You can fit more of them in a tackle box if you need a bunch of them.
