Eufaula, the bad with the good.

Post by tin can »

Our club fished a tournament on Eufaula, 6/22. Paddletail and I got on the water around 11 am, on the 20th. Checked several of our spots, along with some new ones. No joy. Put the boat on the trailer about 4, with no fish caught. 6/21, we were on the water before daylight. Tried some shallow water grass beds. Never saw anything move. No bass, no bait, no nothin! moved out to a point and immediately caught 2 keepers. Left that spot in search of others. Found fish on 2 more spots. We're thinking we're in good shape for the tournament. Didn't get a bite after 11 am. Put it on the trailer at 4 pm with 3 decent spots for the tournament.

6/21, tournament day. We went straight to the point we caught fish on the day before. Paddletail landed a 10" fish. After making every effort to make those fish bite we moved to spot 2. No takers. Tried several reliable spots with no luck. We both struck out.

There were 9 of us fishing. 1st place was 2 fish that totaled 4.18 pounds. Second place was 1 fish at 2.19 pounds. third was 2 fish totaling 2.09 pounds. 4th place was 1 fish at 1.88 pounds. 5th place was 1 fish at 0.88 pound. There was no 6th place.

Eufaula is usually a busy place. Sunday, we saw maybe 5 other boats bass fishing. Even the locals stayed off the lake. It was as tough as I've ever seen it. But, that's tournament fishing.
What was I supposed to do today?

Sounds tough for sure. I was there this time last year and all I heard was fish deep, fish deep. I fished on a flat about 2-3 feet deep and took 4th place with 17 pounds. You didnt see any schoolers south of Lakepoint?

I fished the Lee King tourny 6/14 and it took over 20lbs to win. Most people we saw were fishing deep. We went up the river and pounded the shore line for one fish. Ended up finishing 74th out of 153 boats so at least someone did worst than us.

Lake fishing can be really tough, this time of year you might as well take your tube with you so at least you don't waste a trip to the lake! Glad you did decent Tin Can.
