Many Thanks...

Post by caseycook »

Many thanks to every person that volunteered for the HHA event. Everyone had a great time, some good fish were caught, and the cloud cover kept us cool for most of the day.

THANK YOU!!!

If you have pictures from yesterday, post them here so we can send them to FDOA!

Should have some pictures tomorrow and will add them

As far as a report, I had already made arrangements to bypass the supply distribution at Jerry's and launch from Shields at 6:30. Dennis and Billie, my Husband and Wife team arrived and we could hear the rumbling even before we headed down the river. I ask Dennis if he wanted to handle the driving while we were in the river and he jumped at the chance so I turned it over to him and he did an excellent job. :D

I was nervous about just how much time the weather might give us and while the conditions were good, I headed us out past the birdrack to 17 ft of water, anchored over some rocks and started dropping some dead and cut bait. I hadn't stopped to try and catch any pin fish because I was afraid to waste any time with what seemed to be developing weather. They immediately started putting some Sea Bass in the boat along with an occasional spot tail, etc. and the bite seemed to be pretty good. :smt007 Then Dennis hung into something that was giving him a pretty good pull.

He did a good job of handling the rod and here comes a pretty 17" gag. Dennis was grinning from ear to ear :-D but then I mentioned it was short and I thought I was gonna have a fight on my hands. He found it pretty difficult to believe that a fish that big would not be legal. Any way we took a couple of pictures and he finally let go long enough for me to return the fish to the water while he was mutter'n something about look'n for his big brother!! :smt014

After a couple of big hardheads, it wasn't long before the bite just flat stopped. From what I was hearing on the radio the weather was moving North East so I pulled up and took off for the Aucilla. We ran in and did a couple of drifts in 8-9 ft with little more than a couple of flying fish taking off. Moved closer in to 4-5 ft and started working our way back towards the lighthouse. Managed 3 short trout but mostly nothing doing. I was still watching the weather and I could still see the lighthouse so I knew nothing had moved between us although I could tell there was some rain to our West somewhere. We started moving back towards the light house, past Cobbs rock, Black rock, etc. Started feeling a sprinkle or two... then the clincher... I was throwing a top water and noticed that my line was still 6-7 ft off the water. :smt100 We were definitely in a statically charged area and it was time ta make our way somewhere else so we headed on in. Dennis wanted to drive some more so I showed him an old bread crumb trail from a previous trip and we started off for home.

Got back to Shields about 2-2:30 and got everybody off the boat safely. I had brought a bag of frozen Sea Bass just in case and that meant that Dennis and Billie would at least have some fish for dinner. It was a good day all around. Never saw another HHA team but I know they were out there. I believe I heard BB calling for Casey on the radio.
