Econfina...June25, 2008

Post by Fisherman989 »

Went to Econfina yesterday. Hot isn't the words to describe it....the fishing and the weather. We decided to go out....rather than in...and that's just what we did. We went 7-8 miles streight out from the river pole. We sat down right in the midst of some keeper trout and about everything else you can think of that lives in the ocean. We proceeded to catch 4 sharks--about 100 short black bass--a pink mouth grunt--2 look-downs--3-4 squirrel fish--3 lizardfish(bit too)--3 puffers (hate them cause they eat up the grubs)--2 rimorors WITH SuCTION cups on top) and 10 keeper trout.
I didn't see another boat all day. I felt like I was on the moon. You really need two boats to go out as far as we went.
Water temp was 84.9 degrees...and clear as a crystal. It's murkerer over at Aucilla River flats.
We used probably 4-5 packs of white gulp grubs...so this catch ain't cheap..if you count the trip expences....plus two cafe meals. There was some periods of inactivity....and that's when it was hotest. Quit fishing at 1400 hours.....still some 10 miles from the truck. :D

I forgot the two fish that were caught at the same time.....a grass grouper and a black bass were caught at the same time....on the same hook...a jig and gulp. Both fish were hooked on a single jig. First time I have ever seen that.
Never have seen a fish bit into by a shark...but we did on this trip. Bit right at the boat...saw the whole action....came in with half a blackbass.
