Offshore Panama City (kind of) 6/27
I just got back from a family trip to Panama City Beach. I pulled the boat along just for kicks and giggles. My father in law and I decided to fish the bay and caught some fish and had a good time. Friday we decided to head out into the Gulf a little. Not knowing crap about what I was doing I loaded my tackle box with everything I could think of. We headed out about 3 miles abd stopped because the weather looked horrible and that is some ROUGH water. I threw out my anchor and a chum bag, we just wanted to catch anything that would bite. About 20 minutes into it I looked back and saw about 10 sharks swimming around the back of my boat, most of them were 2 to 3 feet long. I had a couple of rods set up with squid on the bottom and 2 rods with dead cigar minnows under cajun thunders behind us. Those sharks NAILED the cigar minnows. We caught several and decided to move to a different spot after about an hour. We went to some buoys at the channel to catch some bait fish because the sharks had eaten all of the cigar minnows. We caught some live bait and it was about 55-60 feet deep in the channel. We just threw out 3 live bait rigs there and drifted. Immediately by rod bent over and it was almost out of line right before the line popped. Five seconds later my father-in-law's did the same thing except his rod was set up a little better and he landed a nice King Fish! Here we were two rednecks from South Georgia not knowing what in the world we were doing and got into a school of King Fish only a mile offshore!! It was so much fun! We caught a few and even had a rod break because those things pull like a Duramax! Ignorance is bliss because we certainly didn't have a plan of attack but it was such a fun trip. Next time I will be prepared and not catch anything. Sorry I don't have any pictures but I guess you just had to have been there.
