st. augustine fishing
Going to St.Augustine for a week. Will be staying on the intercostal with a boat to fish in. Anyone have any great places to fish or what I should do to maybe catch a few fish? Been there before and never had much luck. Don't want to sit on the beach all the time. At least the scallopers want be there.

Re: st. augustine fishing
I was down there this past weekend and to be honest I try not to fish while I'm there.
I've never had much luck and from what I heard at the bait shop down there nobody has been doing a whole lot.
If you want some preety good starting places go to Mike's Place. its a bait shop on the ICW, and talk to Randy. Real good guy and fishes a bunch down there. If you like blue crab and shrimp hit him up about those as well.

I lived in Jax Beach for 8 years and got started fishing for redfish there. The creeks around the Mayport area are lined with oyster bars and have big swinging tides with tons of bait in them. There is a bait shop on Hecksher Dr. right where the bridge crosses the ICW. I always stopped in there and they were real informative and helpful. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=browns%20 ... a=N&tab=wl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I never really fished the St. Augustine area, except a couple of kingfish tourneys, but Mayport is not that far away. Good luck, let us know how you do.

Matanzas Inlet, a little south.
Caught flounder, black drum and redfish from the fort to the bridge last year over the 4th weekend.

Thanks for all the help. I will be staying just south of Matanzas. Where and how did you catch the reds,etc?

Caught the reds on small live crabs, ounce of lead, just letting the drift along the bottom with the current. Crabs were caught in the castnet while catching bull minnows that were used for the flounder up near the bridge. Black drum were also caught in the shadow of the bridge.
