Wiring/Trolling Motor Question

I have been having an issue with my trolling motor. When you put it on high it cuts off after about 5 minutes. You have to turn it off then on again several times to get it to work. Also at low speeds it didn't really do it. I thought it might be a battery with a dead cell so I replaced the battery...no dice.It only does this under a load. I returned the trolling motor to the dealer.I just got it back from the dealer who had the Minn Kota service folks look at it and the motor is perfect. I started looking at my wiring tonight. At the battery the neg cable had about half of the wire strands out of the connector and all the wires were green and corroded. I cut it back to good copper and put a new connector on. Could that have been the trouble when it was under a load with the amps up? Maybe it gets hot and looses connection? I am baffled and since it only does it under a load I won't have a chance to try it until Saturday. What do you guys think?

My thinking, you had a loose connection..When it heated under load you lost your ground. It wasn't the turning it on and off that started it working but the conductor cooling down..

Good point, I guess that would make me loose the ground. I will try it at Lake Chehaw Saturday and let you know. Thanks!

that happened to me the last year....I cleaned the connections to the motor and tightned them up real snug and it worked like a champ

Had a similar problem on mine awhile back. It was a bad switch ( I have a 5 speed). It had gotten wet and beat to death. $15 and about 15 minutes fixed it right up.
