KEY LARGO BOATS ?

Post by Carlabear »

I AM THINKING ABOUT A KEY LARGO BOAT. I HAVE FOUND A 2003 18 FT CENTER CONSOLE WITH AN ALUMINUM TRAILER AND 90 MERC SALT WATER SERIES AND IT IS A GREAT PRICE. DO ANY OF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THESE BOATS AND PERFORMANCE IN THE BAY. THIS BOAT WAS USED ONLY IN FRESH WATER

I think they are decent boats. I know a guy in Panama City that has one and he really likes it. I would got to iboats.com and see if there are any opinions posted there.

Key Largo is a decent boat. Not the best, but decent. I fish out of one all the time with a buddy of mine. He has an 18' also with a 90 hp Yamaha. It does tend to ride a bit rough though in anything over 2-3's and you will get wet going against the surf :x

Its a solid boat you shouldn't be disappointed. I've got the exact same boat but in the Palm Beach name, same year, same power. Both boats come out of the same factory, in fact if you check both websites the construction pics are exactly the same.

I'd prefer a more "flats" oriented boat but my wife feels much more comfortable in this boat with its tall gunnels and decent freeboard. We can have 5 ppl on board and not be stepping all over each other. Keep in mind they are price point boats so there is always something left to desire. Plenty of rod holders but not much in the way of dry storage (invest in some dry bags) and the center console doesnt provide much room for electronics. The Key Largo may have a different layout. My main complaint is that the Palm Beach did not come with a tach. I'm having some Merc problems at the moment but once that's ironed out, a tach is next on my to do list.

Over all its a good boat, enough room for people and gear without getting too crowded. Dolphinatic is right about the ride but the boat provides a good solid feel.....most all boats are wet when going against the wind and surf so don't sweat that part.

These boats are manufactured in the town where I live. I know the owner of the company and Steve is a great guy.
One of his factories burned a while back so all operations have been moved to one plant. He's ramping up production again now.

Key Largo is a good product. Fit and finish is not what you'll find on some other higher end boats,. but functionality is the word with these hulls. As previously stated, you likely will not be disappointed.
If it's true that all the world's a stage...I WANT BETTER LIGHTING!

Thanks for all the response I have received regarding the Key Largo boats. I have decided not to purchase the boat due to problems with the seller but appreciate all the information I received from people I don't know. Thats the great thing about being a member of our forum!!!! I have a key west that 16 years old and still functions great! :smt006

No problem, glad to offer a comment, thats whats great about here! I'm new to this and from what i've read....alot of great ppl around to help. BTW if my wife and kids had not been chomping at the bit to get a boat, I would have held out till i found a solid used Key West.
