Ramp at the Fort open ?

Post by Welby »

I was hoping to take DeeDee on a boat trip Saturday and wanted to know my options...I will likely go to Econfina first but wanted a backup plan incase of weather. I think I heard a while back that the fort ramp at St. Marks was closed...Is it still ? or does anyone know of the best ramps in that area. A floating dock would be best for her to make the transition from a wheelchair to the boat...along with some patient boaters at the ramp while I transfer her and park the truck :smt004 ......I appreciate any advice

HEY WELBY, THERE WAS A POST BACK THE FIRST OF THE WEEK STATING THAT THE OLD RAMP AS WELL AS THE NEW ONE WAS OPEN AT THE FORT. THE OLD RAMP HAD A FLOATING DOCK NEXT TO IT, I WOULD ASSUME THAT IT IS STILL THERE. DOWN AT THE LIGHTHOUSE RAMP THEY HAVE A FLOATING DOCK THAT YOU COULD USE THE WHEELCHAIR ON WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. I CARRIED A WHEELCHAIR BOUND BOY FISHING FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE RAMP WITH NO PROBLEM. I LIFTED HIM OUT OF THE WHEELCHAIR AND SAT HIM ON A SEAT IN THE BOAT, THEN PULLED THE WHEELCHAIR INTO THE BOAT AND TRANSFERRED HIM TO THE WHEELCHAIR SO WE COULD LOCK THE WHEELCHAIR DOWN. GLAD THAT DEE DEE IS GETTING BACK OUT AGAIN.
HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU TO MAKE A DECISSION.

Welby the fort ramp was open last I checked, another option would be the ramp at Shields, its floating also and you should be able to easily get a wheelchair down to the boat. Good luck and hope you have a great time.
