Keaton Report Aug 2-3
Was so concerned about safety equipment for the boat, I forgot to bring the camera along. Luckily, one of the friend that was with us did have his camera but he took only a few pictures. I am still waiting for the pictures.
On Saturday, we scalloped in 2-3' water from around 10.30 am to 2.00 pm and managed to collect about 8-9 gallon. We didn't venture very far from the channel because of the (wrongly forecast) threat of thunderstorm, which partly responsible for our poor catch but everyone had a good time. We fished from 2 - 6 pm and managed to catch 10 trout, with mostly quality fish including one at 21'' which Calvin pulled in. We were in 4-5' water most of the time. Once we drift into less than 4' water, we caught mostly shorts.
Since the fish were bitting good, the guys went out at 6.30 am while the ladies slept in and managed to put 3 keepers in the box by 9.00 am. We ran a little further from the channel this time, started scalloping at 10.30 and easily limited out by around noon. We ran further still from the channel away from the flotilla of boats and started fishing in 6' water. We put 9 more trout in the box when we quit at 5 pm. Again, many of them were quality fish including a 21'' and 23''. To put icing on the cake, Calvin landed a 22'' red right before we had to quit fishing.
So, total of the weekend:
18 gallon of scallop, 22 trout, and 1 redfish
3 sunburned fishermen and 2 sunburned fisherwomen
3 worn out kids
Hit-n-Miss, did you go out on Saturday? If you happened to see a 19' Kenner with a boat load of Chinese (there were 9 of us), that was us.

Ya done good. Seems Calvin always has the hot hand.

What was I supposed to do today?

Sounds like a good weekend to me

Thanks for the reply. Yes, Calvin has turned into a fine fisherman. He started following me fishing when he was 5. So all the effort I put into taking him along and paying attention on showing him stuff instead of forcusing on my own fishing time is paying off.
Hit-n-Miss, though I have learned a lot fishing around Keaton area and am quite confident in finding what the trout wants, I am by no means an expert. We need to hook-up on a fishing trip sometimes and I will show you how I fish.

Last week was nice, overcast all day but no thunderstorm at far off the horizon as you could see. It was a little choppy for the ladies and kids over a few miles from shore but closer to shore was fine. We were using mostly pinfish. Too much grass for throwing top water. BTW, I am from Tifton.Hit-n-Miss wrote: Thats not a bad idea. Here lately I cant buy a fish. I'm in Thomasville where are you? Was it rough last week? What did you catch your fish on?
