Keaton Beach, 8/09, fishing and scalloping

Post by ddb »

Went down with a friend to Keaton Beach on 8/09, encouraged by recent scalloping and optimistic due to recent fishing reports. Neither the fish nor the scallops disappointed. Wound up with a limit of both. Water temps appear to have dropped a bit since my last trip down. They are now in the 82-86 range rather than the 86 and above. It may have turned the fish on a bit. Water color continues to be quite stained other than the area right around Keaton. I imagine it's clear to the south as well, but I haven't went that direction in a while. Our fishing was best in the transition water, between muddy and clear. Fished in 4-6'. Would have liked to have gone shallower early, but even at 9 am the scallopers have that wrapped up.

Good deal, ddb. Ya'll done lots better than us on the trout. We just couldn't find 'em. You ain't kidding about the stained water. Got towards Spring Warrior at one point and it looked like a dark tea.

We've been having better luck in the slightly less stained water, not clear, not muddy. It might be somewhat cooler there as well.
