Encofina 8/17

Post by sundown »

We got the boat in this morning just after daylight.Running late as usual.. Got to the birdrack and water was slick as glass with quite a bit of grass floating..Which I had expected.

We ran to our first number and something had the mullet just about jumping up in the grass. Jay caught a trout about 18 1/2" on his second cast I think it was.. Had several blowups but missed the fish...Moved around the first point and the mullet were flying ! We both shot a spook in the middle of them and hooked up with reds..nothing special about 22" each..But a double hookup anyhow ....
A couple of short trout and it was about 8 oclock...Top water hits stopped completely..

We drifted out with the falling tide to about 5 ft but nothing happening..moved further to 7' and caught a little of it all..sailcats, sharks, ladyfish, short trout, a huge black bass..you name it, we saw or caught it....

About 10:30 I crawled up on the front deck and took a 45 minute power nap..That getting out at 3 in the morning is tough on an old man ! Jay kept entertaining the sharks !

Tide started to turn and we headed back to shallow water...It was still a little low to get to our main creek so we stropped outside and threw topwaters for awhile..Only bluefish and short trout..

About 2 we went up in our creek and fish were busting bait everywheree...We tried spoons, topwaters, grubs but only got a couple hits..one was a bluefish that cut Jay's line and I hung a decent red on a pink spoon....I did have one in my box..Red threw the hook ~!

We did a lot exploring and experimenting how my boat would do in the creeks and shallow water. It went through those shallow cuts and creeks like an eel ...I think I got my redfish boat......

Weather was beautiful all day...light wind.overcast, not too hot...Only thing was the grass..All in all a fine day ....

Bote done real good...Could best be described as a solid fishing platform...Plenty of power both with big motor and trolling motor...Handles better than I expected...We worked all kinds of narrow cuts and creeks with tm and it did fine..Didn't have any rough water to run in but I expect it will do ok....Just wish I had bought a boat like this last time I upgraded...Also got plenty of room..do have to do some reworking for coolers and such.....
