Big Tiger shark off SGI

Post by Pirate »

Not my report but got it from one of my fishing partners. Last weekend they were at SGI in the state park. Several guys from Texas were taking baits way out with kayaks. Hooked something big. They watched them land a 12' foot tiger. He's got pictures but I haven't seen him yet. They weren't at the East End, just somewhere off the beach. Good luck with the surfing!
People that catch a lot of fish fish a lot!

If true, that is the 2nd one caught off of that beach this year. Might have to take a bigger pole the next time I go down there.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Yep, it's true. The Texan's have been planning on fishing that area for a while. They came prepared with their own bait from Texas and numerous 12/0, 16/0 and other large reels. It was really a matter of time, I helped a little with area information but for the most part they fished "Texas" style sharking and it paid off. It's nice to know that heavy cable can pay off in the clearer Florida waters, many SE Florida guys would talk against it. The angler's name was Chris Deaver and he run's his own shark fishing website, if anyone want's more information send me a pm and I can send you several links about that style of fishing, including Chris' website. I hope we can keep most people on the web guessing as to the location, but it looks like NW Florida has become a "new" target, people will come to fish it from the shark rich waters of SE Florida and all over Texas in hopes of finding more fish like that.

I guess it could be an optical illusion, but I am skeptical about the 12 feet after seeing that photo. :smt102

If they are measuring to the tip of the tail, you can figure on the distance from the 2nd dorsal fin to the tip being roughly 1/3 of it's overall length. That would put it right at 12'.

Maybe this will help.
