Da Chrimp

Post by Chalk »

I was milling around T. Borski's art site and saw this lil bug and had to have one...not sure of the name, but Da Chrimp sounds fitting - a lil shrimp and a lil crab.

Materials Used
Hook: Mustad 34007 size 1 or 2 or 4 . (Pictured is a #4)
Thread: Flat waxed nylon - color dependent
Tail: Cross cut rabbit strip - color dependent
Body: deer body hair - two different colors
Head: small eyes bead chain eyes - use larger eyes if you want it on the bottom
Weed Guard: 30-pound mono

Tying:
Tie in a rabbit strip that is the length of hook somewhere between the hook barb and point
Tie in a clump of deer hair - you want the tips to cover the hook. Do not spin the hair, you want it to flare over the hook point
Tie in one to two clumps of contrasting deer hair
Wrap thread forward and tie in dumbbell eyes
Trim the deer hair - you can whip the thread and cut it to trim the hair or leave the line attached
Tie in the weed guard if you want one
Whip finish and apply head cement.

Here's looking at you kid

Good way to spend a wet Sunday afternoon..I was in Orlando OUtfitters last week and bought a book by Scott Sanchez that has a pattern I want to try that isn't quite as complicated as chrimp....Just don't have exactly the color of chenille I need..Called the Bugger Shrimp..Supposedly a saltwater version of the wooly booger. Dang, I'll be glad when cool weather gets here and the water clears up some !

Good looking bug Chalk. I'll take a half dozen. Tarpon gurglers were on the schedule for me today.
