Most of the Minn Kota foot controlled motors have two steering cables. I would suspect one of yours is broken.
What was I supposed to do today?

Take the top off "four screws up from the bottom half" and watch the cables as you move the foot "or try and look at the cable conection at the foot". The cable could be broke, or it could have come disconnected at the foot or head

My other minn kota is how you guys describe but this one has no cables, I have taken off the right hand side which controls the on/off and 0 to 10 speed by removing 3 screws, it is all electric , 6 wires, white, green, orange, brown, red and yellow, they seem connected fine, sealed in with some sort of silicon, the other side{left/right control] is held in with 3 springs, it also is connected to the electric control panel, I think I should just clean it and see what happens.........bet I mess it up :smt010

It's probably the electronics package in the control box that has gone bad. I have had the remote controll Minnkota for several years....and I had the exact trouble you are having. My option was to repair it....or get a new one. I got a new one and have been using it for about 7 years with no trouble. :)

Give us the make and model Wadey  we was going on the assumption that it was the manul steer, not the electronic steer :smt012 :-D

Nothin to it. Went to Minn Kota's web site. I knew they were international.

Also, I'm an endless source of useless knowledge.

England is about the size of Rock Island, it shouldn't be far from Wadey's house.

TC thanks for that, I already tried them but "JOHNSON OUTDOORS INC. UK" don't have dealings with foot controlled motors! or so the guy on the phone reckons :smt011

wevans, I have taken it apart and it is a mechanical problem not electrical I can get it to work fine by sliding the contact switch left and right over the control circuit, but when it's put together it works one way only, I guess the part that moves the contact switch over is worn, this is the model I have, may have to get a new one, thanks for the help Gentlemen

PowerDrive Foot Pedal

Part # 2774700
Looked on ebay I can get a second hand one from the USA delivered for around $100, may have to do that, just out of interest this is what the Main UK dealer had to say in response to an e-mail I sent requesting advice as to what my options were:-
Quote:-
Hi,
If you send it in to us with proof of purchase we will take a look at it for you, providing it has been bought in the UK .
Regards
ChrisLeggett
Johnson Marine Electronics
"UnQuote"

I assume that they don't want to sell me a service or replacement foot control if I didn't buy the original from the UK! :smt011
