spoons

Post by sundown »

Yesterday I threw a Captain Mike spoon nearly all day. When wind really got up in afternoon, I using kentucky windage to try to put it where I wanted to..Years ago, I used nothing but 1/2 oz Johnson spoons in fresh and salt water when I was spoon fishing...1/2 oz spoon with a pork rind trailer was the medicine around grass and lily pads.. It sure would be easier to throw in the wind that that 3/8 oz Capt Mikes..Anybody got any thoughts on this ?

Kentucky Windage is key to using a spoon. I can't see any benefits from using a trailer. Just keep chunking and winding.

I usually use a pork strip trailer on a Johnson's, or similar, spoon when bass fishing. A trailer will reduce the action of a spoon. Sometimes that's good. It will also provide a little lift.

I own a bunch of both models and I believe the Johnson Silver Minnow "flies" better than the Capt. Mikes weedless. Just a personal opinion.

I agree with "play the wind."! :-D
