I met BK out at the backside of Aligator Harbor early Saturday morning to do a little yak fishing. The wind was blowing out of the east at a solid 15-20 mph. Perfect for topwater I caught one red early on a chrome and bone shedawg, and picked up one more later on with a jerkbait on the bottom. It was a rediculous day to be out there fishing in a kayak.
Early on right at dawn, I reached back to grab a rod, and I heard a splash. One of my rods had fallen in the water. With great dismay I realized it was my Curado and All Star rod($350 setup). Because of the low light and 4 feet of water, there was nothing I could do but mark the spot with my GPS. Later after the tide had dropped, I went back to look. The area was muddy bottom, so I spent the better part of 45 minutes in knee deep mud and a foot of water looking. Just as I had given up and was sadly climbing back in the yak, I looked down and..... there it was. I am particularly fond of that reel as it was the one I caught my first big tarpon with this summer. Fortuantely and with the help of my handheld a bad day didn't end in tragedy.
