Curado E700 (again)

Last week Birddog sold me on the E700 so I got one...Used it yesterday and love it ! although I didn't have the sucess he did.

This afternoon, I took a Shimano Chronarch 100B which is a much more expensive reel and loaded it with the same Suffix 20# braid and put it on an identical Falcon rod. Took both rods and reels out in yard with a 3/8 spoon and the E700 probably will throw the spoon 35' further than the Chronarch. I had lubed both of them..Is this because of the different in gear ratio ??

Also, I have two Shimano Spheros 4000's and two Stradic 4000's. The Spheros in my opinion is a much surperior reel to and is 50 dollars less expensive than the Stradic..And I've used both these hard the past couple years.

Makes you wonder about judging performance by what something costs...

Glad you liked it SD. The gear ratio won't have anything to do with the casting distance. I suggest pulling the spool bearings out of the Chronarch and soaking them in a cleaning/degreasing solution. Let them dry, then apply a drop of light/thin oil. I recommend Rocket Fuel, but there a lot of good reel oils out there. Never put any grease on the spool bearings.

New shimano's seem to throw good out the box...I have two Chronarch 100's - I have to keep them super clean and oiled to hang with my curado 200. I think the mass of the Curado spool influences the casting distance.

What kind of cleaner would you use on spool bearings ? Would acetone or naptha be too strong ? I've put Penn lube on them pretty heavy. I would imagine its more for heavier reels ? Never have pulled the bearings and cleaned them.

I use carburetor cleaner in an aerosol can...least amount of oil that you can get by with...I use one drop (my own mix - 2 parts 3:1 oil and 1 part Rocket fuel tournament grade)

SD, I use paint thinner. I've used it for years w/o any problems. I guarantee you the penn lube is way too heavy.

That's what it's called

There are three grades: Red, Yellow and tournament

Red has the greater viscosity and tournament has the least...tournament is for casting tournaments.
