We anchored on the first spot and the fish started coming over the gunnels pretty quickly. Jackson caught his first keeper grouper with a little help from Joe. The it was Steven's turn. Joe then proceeds to school us all landing a 32" gag and and a 30" gag in 28 feet of water.
Jackson was wearing out the grunts and we kept a mess and used the rest for bait. During his grunt fishing he hooked something big and fought it for a good 10 minutes. He was a champ, with just a little help from me, landed his first redfish, all 36" of him.
Couple more highlights of the day. We got visited during the redfish fight by a huge bullshark. You can see me pointing at him during the redfish fight. A huge nurse shark also visited us. And Joe had his hands full with a huge sea turtle that ate half a grunt fillet.
The bite for the most part ended when the tide was in full incoming mode. The current was ripping and I've never done well fishing in a ripping current. THe best bait for the day was LY's and wouldn't you know, we only bought one box. Squid and boston mackerel and grunt filets worked ok.
We called it a day about 12:30 and made it back to tally by 3. We all had a blast. I think we enjoyed the kids as much as the fishing.
Tally for the day
