I'm totally against it! It will set our economy back a minimum of 20-30 years and further discourage private enterprise. The government will grow larger and larger to administer and "regulate." The banking/mortgage industry will be negatively revolutionized. The presently depressed housing industry as a whole (realtors, builders, contractors and suppliers) will be further oppressed. Look at the pattern.... government control of communications, airlines, automotive industry, now housing, and, healthcare waiting in the wings. I don't even look at this from a political standpoint and would feel the same whether or not there be a pending presidential election. It's ridiculous for the stock market of the greatest country in the world to react so negatively to the House of Rep's vote....but guess what.....it didn't crash the next day! In fact, it rebounded strongly reflecting the true feelings of the American public at large. If ever there's been a "rush to judgement" just watch the news! The will of the people influenced and changed the outcome of the
most recent immigration legislation but I'm afraid this time it's being ignored. I'm an eternal optimist living realistically in sad times!

Without getting on a soapbox, I say NAY. A bailout is a bad idea.

What is getting bailed out? The folks that never could have paid the mortgage anyway or the folks that should never have loaned them the money?

They loaned money to people with bad credit and they didn't pay why are we shocked?

What does this solution solve?
Yesterday it was taboo today it is normal what the heck will they be doing tomorrow?

It solves how much more power Paulson and Co. have. It pays the Chinese, so they will keep loaning us our credit fix. It gives the illusion that "all is well".

Soon we will see just how well off we have become.

Posting after the senate vote and keep going from this... :smt076 to this... :smt078 and back to... :smt076

Oh well, on a semi-related note (admittedly not REALLY happy with either party right this second) thinking about adding this bumper sticker to my truck...

or maybe this one...

Where can I get one of those?

Something needed to be done and I know it sounds harsh but if you made $30K a year, how could you fathom borrowing $300K for a house? If I made just enough to keep the wolves at bay it would kill me. Greed and the pursuit of the American Dream brought this on, in my opinion. It would be great if everyone could own their own home with the white pickett fence and dog in the backyard but frankly, some and it appears now alot can't afford it. Aspirations for a better life is a great but you also have to live within reality.
I work hard, as does my wife and most everyone I know, we all pay our bills and when times get tough we buckle down and pull through. The thing that gets me is, ain't a soul in Washington offered to dayum thing to help me and I'm pretty sure nobody on this forum will see a dime to help them. I say everyoner on the ballot this November with an (I) besides their name gets a free trip home and out of office, it's time to start over from sratch.
The current state of Washington has me thinking seriously about somethign Lewis Black once said, "To elect our representation, we should blindfold a monkey and drop him out of a plane. The first person to grab the monkey gets to be President. That way we have a better chance and getting someone honest and dumb enough to do as their told." Think about it, anybody got a plane and a monkey?
Thanks for this forum TK, I needed to get that off my chest.

I don't think we should help with a bailout. A bailout that will give folks MORE opportunities to borrow MORE money. That just does not make sense. Bill Heard Cheverolet had to shut down over 16 car dealerships because he could not get a loan to buy more cars and pay his employees. Sounds like he was not running his business correctly anyway if he was depending on his credit lint and not his sales staff. He also blaimed the banks for not loaning money to some of his customers that did not qualify. Hell I worked for one of the largest companies in the world (Honeywell) and had been in the military for four years ,and could not get a car loan without my parents co-signing when i was 27 years old. Now they give kids credit cards at college. The last thing we need is to borrow more money. And think about this, where is the 700 billion coming from? From banks. The governement is just guaranteeing loans from one bank that has money, to another one that needs moeny. No thank you.

I sure hope next time I get in a tight the "sumabiches" act so quickly to bail me out! :smt011

If there's a moral here it surely must be.....if you're going to break the bank do it in grand style!

Seriously, I do wonder how much more they're going to tax my social security! :smt010
