rod question for you surf fishers

Post by pcbayou »

Any recommendations on a 8- to 9-foot surf spinning rod for throwing lures? I'd like to replace my dearly departed Daiwa Sealine in its price range ($60-$75). But I'd like to know what's new since I bought the Sealine a few years ago.
Apologies if you saw this question already on other forums. Or am I the only one who checks out the other classes down the hall?

I have an 8' Ugly stik. I think the model is BWS1100. Works pretty well but I don't know that it is as good a "real" surf rod.

Hmmm... Is it the Ugly Stik Lite?

Hey, as long as it's a "real" bargain, that's OK. The regular Ugly Stiks feel a little more stiff than the Sealines, at least to me. But I do have a 6-foot Ugly Stik Lite that I use for speckled trout, and it's one of my favorites. I'll check to see what Shakespeare has in the 8-9-foot range. Thanks much.
