My son's 1st deer! Opening weekend. And now his 2nd.

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

I am so proud of my son. He got his first deer and it was a buck. We started out opening morning sitting till 9:30 without seeing anything at all. That evening he said he was tired and wanted to stay at the house. So I sat but saw nothing.........................................................The next morning he was ready to go and we got in the stand around 10 till 7:00. We watched it get light and did not see anything. So at 7:20, since he cant see real well over the rail of the box stand from a seated position, I let him play his gameboy(with the sound off) while I kept watch. At 7:28 I saw two bucks step into the foodplot from the hardwoods to the left. I told him it was time. So he stood up and I handed him his .222. I told him to aim for the shoulder of the one on the left(the larger of the two), then take a breath and squeeze the trigger. Thru my scope I watched the deer move behind the other one and come out to it's right. I kept whispering to him" take a breath and squeeze". His buck was approaching the pines on the right of the foodplot, so I whistled to stop it. It did not notice and kept moving. It was an eternity until he finally shot. The buck kicked wildly so I knew it was a good hit. We high five'd and waited a tense 20 minutes before going to see it. We were both so excited waiting for my wife to walk down to see it. My boy made a perfect 100 yard shot on a walking deer. The 150lb 7pt only went 30 yards after the 53 gr barnes Tsx blew straight through. I am so thankful that I got to see it all happen and be right beside him for that once in a lifetime experience. :-D

Nice job

I plan on doing that with my son in a few weeks. He's still looking for #1 too.
