Took a break from grouper chasin. Headed out of Econfina around 8:15 am Saturday morning trout fishing. Myself, Frank and Frank's dad Mr Bradfield. Started out slow. First fish of the day was Mr Bradfield with a nice 18 to 19 in inch trout. Wind was blowing. Kept fishing. Make a long story short, I caught my personal best trout at approximately 27 inches. The trout experts at the camp said 5 pounds, I estimated 4 pounds. Next cast (drag) I caught a 27 inch red. All this was on a Penn 4200 spinning reel (our pinfish grouper bait catching reels) with fairly light line. I have always not been too interested in trout fishing until now. If you use the right tackle it can be a blast.
Total for the day:
limit of quality trout.
limit of quality reds.
2 huge flounder.
Many throwbacks.
Several missed big un's.
Forgot to mention, Mr Bradfiled is 80+ years old and went all day with no hesitation.
The bigger fish were caught on live pinfish dragged behind the boat on a cork with a 6+ foot leader. I guess I was still grouper fishin
Most fish were caught with a jig under a cork.
Most were in 4" of water. A few came shallow, a few came deeper but most were 4'.
Had a blast. Can't wait till the next time.
No pictures. We normally have 2 cameras, this time none.
You just can't fix stupid.
