OB on Sunday 11//16/08

Post by popeye »

Took my Kayak to Oyster Bay at 6:30 on Sunday. Slight wind and cool temps. Paddled to my favorite oyster bar with the strong outgoing tide and by 7:10 had my first sheepshead, 14-1/2" when I discovered that if you leave your camera in the car on a cold night it tends to drain the battery. So no pictures. Did catch 3 more within the next hour. Final catch was a small pin fish so I decided to stick him under a cajin popper and paddle around. Noticed a lot of splashing and bird divings about a 1/2 mile in the open boat lane and tried to make my way over there. These were some big splashs, about 6 ft high. The wind picked up and by the time I was halfway there, 3 boat had surronded the action. Checked on my pin fish to discover that all the line was stripped from the reel. I was so intent on watching the splashing that I never heard a thing. Decided to call it a day and was back at the ramp by 9:15.
If anyone was there, let me know what it was.

Odds are (big) Ladyfish & Blues. There have been decent schools inshore over there over the last couple of weeks.
Another option for big splashes is dolphin working Mullet.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

FRP, that is one of my favorite games home or away to attend and I know that it is up in the air regardless of the rankings, but it was hard to celebrate after that game. :smt012

But My FSU buddies had brown liquor for the night game. (Millertime lives up to his name)
