Sunday morning hunting 11-16-08 *Jefferson county*

Post by dolphinatic »

My buddy Jeff had some family in town for his liitle girl's 1st Birthday on Saturday. He wasn't able to go, so me and my son Avery went and sat in the woods for the opening morning of Doe Week. It was 67 degrees at 6:30am and the skeeters like to have drove us off :x About 7:10am, we heard the first shot way off in the distance. About 10 minutes later, another. At 7:30am, I look down towards the location of another stand (the one I chose not to sit in for the first time this year). I saw a tail twitching and then a head moving along the top of the grass. It was 2 does. I put the scope up on them to scan the area. Sure enough, about 15 yards away from the does was a nice 9 pt. facing my stand. The does continued to move around, but he didn't budge. I kept the sights on him waiting for a clear shot. He finally turned to walk towards the field to my right, so I took a shot. He jumped towards the field, and does scattered everywhere! I wasn't sure if I hit him, so I waited in the stand for about 45 minutes. We searched the area for about an hour with no luck :( There were fresh tracks all over the place since the rain had passed earlier that morning, so we knew there were plenty of deer moving. We decided to try again Sunday morning.

I was unable to go back Sunday morning due to a baby dedication for church (the wife did not think we would make it back in time......go figure  ) So, Jeff and his brother Lane went in our place. Sure enough, Jeff calls around 8:00am and tells me that Lane got one. About 7:30am, a nice 9 pt. walked out from the road right down the break where he was sitting about 30 yards away. One shot and a short run, the deer was down

Congrats Lane on a nice Sunday morning buck

An hour and a half on stand, a nice buck. Fifteen hours on stand, nothing :smt009 . I'm proud he shot it though. It's his second biggest buck

I feel your pain my brother :smt056 I've got more time in than that and only 2 misses to show for my efforts.

Hopefully that will change over the next couple of mornings
