11-8 & 9 carrabelle

Post by mark1152 »

We left out of carrabelle on saturday about 830. Went out to the grass flats to catch some pinfish, I guess because to the low temps they were slow. Later as the temps went up it got better and the wind was also laying down. So we headed out to 40ft and tryed trolling some stretch 30's, no luck. Headed out to 70 ft around the yamaha reefs and trolled some, caught 4 kings between 25-35 inchs and some amberjack. Only 1 keeper amberjack. Headed in for the day around 330.

We headed out sunday about the same time. Went to some spots just about south of sikes cut in 60-70 feet of water. We anchored, put the chum churn in the water and started fishing. But the anchor was dragging so we were going to reset and I forgot to pull the chum churn and it hit the prop and broke a big chunk out of the side of it. So much for that. And to top it off while this has me distracted I caught the anchor rope and cut off the anchor. Spare anchor is laying on the floor of the garage 300 miles away, right where I left it. So I decided now would be a good time to drift. It worked out well, we caught alot of red snapper, grunts, short gags and red grouper, plus 4 gags between 24-30 inchs. Also got freight trained 4 times, I had 80 pound leaders and they never made to their hole but about a 1/4 way up the leader would snap. Went to Walmart that night to get 100 pound leader but monday was to rough to fish. Had a good trip in all. All of the bigger fish came off live pins, snapper and shorts off northern macks and squid. Buddy is supposed to send pics will post them when I can.

Sorry to hear about the mishaps, but as the proverbial saying goes, alls well that ends well

We were about 10 miles out of sikes cut. There are some reefs out there, Franklin and some others but we were not right on the reefs when we caught fish. People anchor right on top of the reefs but I have always had my best fish off to the side of the reefs.
