It was pretty chilly when we left the house Saturday (26 degrees) at 6am. When we got to Econfina it was 42. We bundled up and headed out of the river. There was a traffic jam in the mouth of the river. At least 8 boats all fishing one spot. I caught a 19 inch red on a jig right off the bat. It was way to cold to fumble for the camera, but we took a picture of it. The flats were a lot calmer than predicted, but the wind showed up about 11am and changed that. We went up in a creek and all the water blew out, it took us an hour of rocking the boat to get out. Glad I have a trolling motor.
About 2pm we headed up the river. We had a few boats with us and they were anchored in the river, right before you get to the first no wake zone. The trout were on fire. Everyone was throwing jigs and catching trout one after another. It was obvious they were stacked up in that one spot. You had to be careful not to cast and hit someone's boat. Lip Ripper was there with his brother in law and they were doing extremely well with live shrimp. Pinfish were nowhere to be seen, so the shrimp did fine. It looks like this week is going to be a good one. We will be back Friday!
i went out of the aucilla saturday at about 8:30, was definately a traffic jam in the river....atleast 15 boats. i went out of the river mouth and headed just east to try out some creeks/mouths....nothing, not even a bite. i messed around on the flats for a while waiting for the tide to come in a little bit and the wind never let it. i was throwing a sureketch jig head and a garnet and gold sureketch shrimp tail (usually slays em) and not even a hit...tried a gold spoon for a while cause of the wind...no luck. oh well thats fishing, it was good just being out there. will try again sunday.
