Well I got up the first Saturday to a report of rain, but it rains somewhere on the island everyday. I went to West Marine and picked up a dry sack for the wade. I studied the nautical map in the store and ran to a place on the southwest side. There was shallow water but waves were breaking on it. I proceeded to head towards the famed surfing location North Shore. A little past North Shore I found a nice bay - I took out on foot to look it over, didn't look good. Moved on down and found a nice flat with waves breaking a good 200 yards offshore. Got the pole out and rigged up - and then the sun disappeared and a dark purple cloud rolls over the mountain top
Moved on down and found another bay - waded through a flat and found a man made fish pond from years past. Saw something chasing minnows. Saw what I believe were to be small bonefish. Made some casts and took some pictures.
It was raining and overcast the following Sunday - rained 5 inches the next Saturday and I had to write a research paper on Sunday - so ended my quest for the Oahu Bonefish.
Love the island - my third time there - sampling the local cuisine is my second favorite thing to do. Had Poke (raw fish seasoned with a sauce, bean sprouts, cabbage and wonton, wasabi) plate, tried a raw tuna sandwhich, was interesting, ate at Big Kahuna's and Byrons as well. Went to the Yard house and almost got sideways trying to sample the 108 different beers
Got up at 0600 (1100 est) yesterday morning went to work til lunch, got to the airport and left at 1650 (950 pm est). Didn't get home til 1100 cst yesterday was up for about 24 hours
Some pics from the trip: lil fishing, Waikki aquarium and shot from my motel room.
