My first Big Bend report

Post by RobChapman »

"Saltynole" and I loaded up the 4 runner for some exploring/fishing this 2 weekends ago.
I didn't post right away b/c I was waiting for the photos to come out, but it may be another 2 weeks! =)
It was the cold Saturday morning...low was near 30!

We took a few wrong turns, but eventually made it to the Cedar Key area =)
From there, we decided to try the Shell Mound area first.
Thanks to the several who posted thoughts, ideas, spots, and emailed me sports to go in this area.

First off, I have to say I have never been to an area so untouched in Florida in all of my life. It is like taking a trip back thru Old Florida....so we were already content with our sight-seeing trip =)

We got their, and the tide was almost dead low. Visitied the pier, and did a lot of exploring up and around the creeks...
We found a great, SOLID (that was key) area to set up base.
It was a perfect spot - or so it seemed - b/c there was deep water in front, plenty of tide action, and lots of bait.

4 hours later.

Nothing =)
We threw everything in the box, and had no takers....
Although I did snap a mullet :P

Following this we explored, then explored, and drove, and explored some more...
All in all a cool day for exploration, although slow on the fishing end, but we definetly know where and when to go when the fishing turns on! (Or so we think :P )

Thanks again guys for your help.

Regards,
RC4
