TFO Signature - Underline?
I have seen a few suggestions that the TFO Signature rod casts better when underlined, since its a medium fast rod. I have the 8 wt in that rod and I'm wondering if I could get better distance with a 7 wt line. Does this sound reasonable, or should I stick with 8wt? I'm currently casting Rio Quickshooter in 8wt and SA clear sink tip in 8wt. Also, any recommendations for a good all around wf line for both fresh and salt?

Actually I have always heard the opposite - to overline. Going down in line means you are throwing less mass - kind of like throwing a spook jr vice a super spook.
But I personally think it's the users basic mechanics of casting. Not implying your ability, just my observations. I have a 7wt TICR and thought it needed to be overlined. I couldn't cast it for nothing - placed in the hands of a certified master caster, he could ring the reel on a 70 ft cast on every cast. After a few lessons I could do it. But I am sure there is a time and place to over or underline I just have not seen it to be a fix, more of a band aid to other things.

Yeah, it didn't make sense to me at first - I was going to try a 9 wt on the rod when I read about the underlining. I guess I'll stick with the 8wt.
Re: TFO Signature - Underline?
Yeah, I've got an 8 wt. TFO's are kind of beefy. A friend of mine that has a Sage tried mine and said it was more comparable to his 9 wt, and so overlining would be the way to go. I've always thrown 8 wt line on mine. Recently I switched to the SA redfish taper, which doesn't necessarily help with distance (if anything, it may hurt it a little), but it does help load the rod quicker for quick, short casts, which is probably what you need more often than not when sightfishing reds. If you're trying to get more distance, you might try a 9 wt line.

That Quickshooter has like a 31' head - try a full taper (45-55') if you want distance - I was using the redfish taper, but have been use SA and RIO saltwater tapers and like the distance, but miss the rod loading on a single haul.
If you want a good deal on line check this out - I ordered some of the saltwater, thinking of getting a few more spools - http://www.mrfc.com/MadisonRiverShoppin ... tegoryID=4

Thanks Chalk - I think I'll give a new line a try.
