Econfina, 12/23/08

Post by ddb »

Made our first trip to the Econfina River yesterday. Came out unscathed (largely due to some very good advice from the board), so I guess it was a successful exploration trip. Took us a while to get the boat in the water, the tide was slow coming in with the wind blowing it out, so we had to wait on it. Fished a few spots on the way out with no takers, moved out into the mouth and then found a creekmout to fish. The tide was just finishing the rise and the creek looked good, but no visible fish activity. Picked up one red in there, moved out to the flats to look for trout, but they weren't cooperative either. Finished up with one trout in the river. Water temps were 47 in the mouth of the river, so I imagine the big temp swing has shut them down for a bit. But I really figured they would be feeding up in the creeks over the oyster bars and the mud. Like I said, at least we came out unscathed.

A bad day on the water is still a great day out of the office. What size was on the red and trout?

Glad you got out there. There aren't any fish at Econfina, I would stick to Keyton.

Yeh, I think you said that B4 ;-)
I guess there were 2. The red was 19, the trout 16. Nothin special, but at that point were were overjoyed to feel a tug on the end of the line.

I'm sure I read it right, but I'm not entirely sure about the sensor. Checked it several times throughout the morning. It was pretty cool at sunrise. :D
