Christmas 2008

Post by jsuber »

I was feeling a little Philanthropic and went to deliver presents to all the good little boys and girls Redfish. I got a Pink Capt Mike spoon for most and a Capt Mike 5"Curly tail for some.

Went back to Steinhatchee for Christmas. Its was very dark with no moon at 5:00 am and the tide was almost all the way out so I waited for light and then walked about 25% of the half mile out to the bay. It was -0.6 and I could see the Redfish tailing on the flats. I eased up to them because the water was around 8" deep. Very quiet fishing and landing baits on or near where they were tailing without disturbing the herds of Redfish was difficult but do-able. I was targeting the bigger tails for the online tournament. I hooked the first one and it broke my leader. My bad, because I tied that on last night and did not do a good job. I targeted more and caught a lot of 23"-24" Reds. I'm not complaining, but I'm looking to measure 27" fish. When you catch a lot of Redfish in one day and say the number, people think your lying, so I'll say I caught quite a few Redfish today. As the tide got high I decided to leave and hooked a 25" Trout which was gonna really help me in the online tournament. I left the spoon in its mouth and put it on my measuring jig. It started flopping around while I got out the camera, and threw the hook and swam away. Oh, well. I left there and stopped in on Hickory Mounds on the way home and fished 2 more hours there and it got dark so I called it a day after getting skunked at the mound. Enjoy the pics.

Water was really low.
