New Grouper rules in Gulf?
I went on line and read new regulations for Gag grouper : up to 2 gags in 5 count limit and 2 reds in state waters starting Jan 1, 2009 . I want to make sure this is correct. Please confirm. There has been many reports and this was as of Dec 08.

You are correct. Which means a grouper or 2 has to be a black, scamp etc. Only 2 each can be gag or red.
Blacks, scamps and the others are found in very deep water around here.

Blacks and gags can be found mixed in with gags on most of the bottom around here. However they are pretty scarce and are pretty skittish.
Don't forget about the closed season from feb to march.

I wonder how many small keepers that have been on ice all day are going to be "released" when the bigger keepers are caught?
You just can't fix stupid.

At least the commercial fisherman's rules weren't changed and they still get to keep 6,000 pounds per trip with 200 pounds of dead Gags thrown back and 200 pounds of dead reds thrown back that don't measure up.

Yeah, I thought about that one day when we found a rotten dead red fish that was at least 20 inches thrown in the weeds at Econfina. It's sad some folks are that stupid.PinFishKing wrote:I wonder how many small keepers that have been on ice all day are going to be "released" when the bigger keepers are caught?
