Piney Island 12.28.08
Put the kayak in at Bottom's Road and fished the back side of Piney Island on Sunday. Needless to say there was very little water in the morning, but it came in with a vengeance around 1:00 or so. This was only the second time I've fished back there, and for a place that looks so fishy, the fish seem to be a little sparse. Not sure if they were still in the holes or what, but I only found a few cruising the oyster bars all day. Saw a couple of reds in the morning, and then the wind kicked up which made sight fishing pretty tough. I managed to get one fish on the spinning rod, and that was it. Here's the big winner:

Nice one. That place can be tough to fish.

That area I fish about 6 months a year pretty hard and it can be great but this time of year not so great. Whith that said that is a pig of a red!

I've caught reds and trout in early spring.

The backside of Piney in the Dickerson bay area around the bars is decent for most of the year. I've caught fish there, but it's never been hot-n-heavy with schooly fish there. I did witness some pretty incredible tarpon feeds there this past July, though.

Is it possible to get out of there on a low tide without running aground and everybody making fun of you??

Re: Piney Island 12.28.08
Hey guys. Thanks for the info on that area. I normally fish the Lanark/ SGI/ Dog Island area, but I'm trying to find some good spots a little closer to home, so I'm kind of having to start the learning process all over. I appreciate the input.
