First off, my apologies for no pics. Just got a new camera and have no friggin clue how to post them on this site. However, there are some on myhometownfishing.com for those of you who'd like to see them.
Put in off Mandalay around 1:30 on Saturday with my girlfriend Nina to fish the last of the incoming and first of the outgoing. We made our way out of the river and started with some oyster bars. I was throwing the SS and my baby doll was zippin a gold Bomber. We fished around the first bar and I watched a solid 5lb trout get vertical under my plug only to watch it for a second and flash off. Nuff to make your knees knock. We move on to the next bar, and by this time it was covered by about 6 inches of water. Nina decided at this time to put on a workshop. She proceeded to put 5 slabs in the boat before I could even hook a fish. All five of her fish were 19 to 20". I continued to watch trout short strike my SS as I was too stubborn to down size to the junior. She put a couple of more fish in the boat and I decided to switch plugs.... however there was no way I was gonna throw what she was using.
Tied on the 7" Fluke and went to town. The trout were on fire as the water temp tipped the 66 degree mark. The fluke pulled in the larger fish, multiple trout over 20" with the largest being 23". We kept our limit, and headed for the hill around 4:30. It was a wonderful day on the water! I was shocked that we didn't see more reds than we did though.
Went out with two buddies on Sunday, the bite started off pretty slow, but soon picked up. We ended up catching 10 to 15 keeper trout all in the 17 to 19 inch range and my buddy Paul caught the only red 23". Flukes and Bombers were the key. All the fish on both days were caught in less than 2ft of water around structure. Nothing just drifting the flats. The water temp on my machine reached 69. It was a great weekend on the water and I can't wait to get back out there.
