I have been wanting to get into some winter sheephead action lately so I loaded up with some fiddlers and shrimp and hit some of my sheepie holes in Oyster Bay. The tide was a pretty good afternoon incoming tide so I hit it around 1:00 today. I tried all my honey holes and not one produced, so I said to hell with this I will shoot over to Piney and see if I can pursuade a red or two to hit a plug. My very first stop is a little bar the size of a truck in the middle of the bay that holds fish in the summer pretty good, BAM! fish on,l turns out to be a nice 27" red. From 3:00 to 5:oo the bite was nonstop. This winter has been unbelievable for redfishing. With water temps staying above normal it has kept alot of fish still out and about on the bars and flats. Most fish today were caught on jig heads, plugs and spoons.
