St Marks 1-2
This morning I was trying to decide whether to go today or tomorrow and couldn't ... so I decided to go both days.
Here's the first day recap:
Left Shell Island around 11:30. Ran offshore to 35'. Took it slow because of the seas.
Trolled with stretch 30. Going with the tide near crab traps. Marked a lot of good bottom. One in particular. Three passes, three keeper groupers. Left 'em biting. The stretch's do a number on the fish and I wasn't going to keep any more. Not sure when the new rules take effect and had plenty to eat anyway.
Brought home 2 gags and 1 red grouper, 2 24" gags and 1 29" red.
Checked my traps on the way back in and also brought home a really good mess of crab claws.
Had a most enjoyable day. Going with wife tomorrow.

You are the man Jim! Nice report, take some pictures tomorrow. Can I have some crabs out of your traps next weekend?

Glad you had a great trip! I liked especially the strategy of going both days but including the wife tomorrow. I bet you're good at chess and have been married a long time. Just a guess.

Did the red grouper hit a stretch? Never caught one trolling.....What color? We went out Saturday and caught 3 with many throwbacks ... How deep were the reds caught in? Thanks for the report

The color was kinda like electric chicken. Not sure what they call it, some kind of mackeral I suppose.
I was in 35', a good ways out by my standards. I almost never catch them trolling but I'm guessing the depth I usually fish may be as much of a factor as the method. Regardless of fishing method, I almost never catch red grouper in the shallower water (20' - 25') where I usually go. But I'll also have to say that I almost always troll out there. Anchoring, dropping bait, jigging, etc. is just too much work
