WELCOME ABOARD MOE, I DO NOT DO ANY SURF FISHING BUT THERE ARE SOME GOOD PLACES TO DO SURF FISHING AROUND MASHES SANDS, LANARK VILLAGE, AND EAST OF THE LIGHTHOUSE AT ST. MARKS. BE SURE TO WEAR GOOD SHOES SIMILAR TO BLOGS, LOTS OF OYSTER BARS IN ALL OF THE AREAS MENTIONED.

Welcome Moe!
Sounds like you'll fit in quite well with this group!
I'm adding a pic for you of surf fishermen on New Years Day outside our room at Blockade Runner on Wrightsville Beach NC last week....they really hung in there although
I didn't see much caught.

Hey Moe,
Give this guy a call. He's a site sponsor and several folks on here would vouch for him.

Welcome Moe:)
Re: New to forums HI!
Get yourself a kayak and you can find a lot more beach to fish. Also around here we do pretty good with Topwater plugs, gold spoons, and popping corks with live shrimp and gulp shrimp.

Moe
There is a county park called Emerson Point in Palmetto (north of Sarasota). My brother lives in the area and takes his son fishing there often. He says it is a pretty good spot for reds. The park has nice trails and numerous places to access the water.
Below is a link for the park web site which includes a map.

2nd vote here for both the kayak idea and Capt. Tom @ Top Notch. My brother lives in Nokomis, just South of you. I have done well taking my kayak down there and working the backwaters or no-motor zones where the larger boats can't go. A 3" Gulp Shrimp on a 1/8 oz. jig head seemed to do the best. Also a dog-walking topwater plug (like a Zara Spook) early in the morning or late in the evening.
If you want to snook fish, you need to go at night or use fresh live bait. It is very hard to get the snook to hit artificials in the day time.
