I'm adding a pic for you of surf fishermen on New Years Day outside our room at Blockade Runner on Wrightsville Beach NC last week....they really hung in there although
I didn't see much caught.

Well I have been picking the brains of all the bait shop owners and a few deck hands. I am statring to get a feel for wheres where and waht to use. Looks like wether I like it or not I know Nothing about catching fish from the beach in florida. I just need to see a full seasonal runm and I am thinking iLl have a better idea. Cheers-Moe

Get yourself a kayak and you can find a lot more beach to fish. Also around here we do pretty good with Topwater plugs, gold spoons, and popping corks with live shrimp and gulp shrimp.

There is a county park called Emerson Point in Palmetto (north of Sarasota). My brother lives in the area and takes his son fishing there often. He says it is a pretty good spot for reds. The park has nice trails and numerous places to access the water.

2nd vote here for both the kayak idea and Capt. Tom @ Top Notch. My brother lives in Nokomis, just South of you. I have done well taking my kayak down there and working the backwaters or no-motor zones where the larger boats can't go. A 3" Gulp Shrimp on a 1/8 oz. jig head seemed to do the best. Also a dog-walking topwater plug (like a Zara Spook) early in the morning or late in the evening.

If you want to snook fish, you need to go at night or use fresh live bait. It is very hard to get the snook to hit artificials in the day time.
