I need some advice. A few years ago when I was still bird hunting I wanted a really good gun so I decided to buy a Beretta Urika 391 and I love it. The problem is I don't hunt anymore and I have only used the gun twice. My father in law has a Benelli M2 that he bought last year and he hates it. He said it kicks too hard and he has had shoulder surgery so it is a big deal to him. He asked me to trade him. It really doesn't matter since I don't hunt anymore but I want my son to have a great shotgun when he gets older. I have asked a few buddies and everyone says to keep the Beretta except for one duck hunting buddy who is a Benelli man. I searched it on the web and the opinions of the Beretta are much better. What do you guys think? Heath?

Me personally, I wouldn't trade diddly squat with my FIL. We get along fine but I don't do business with family. That's bad mojo.

Spoken by a true married man! There is a lot of truth in that statement old buddy! I don't think I am going to do it. I just spoke to two of my good friends who are shotgun experts. Both said stick with the Beretta.

Both are excellent guns . I got rid of my Beretta 391 to get a Benelli M2 because I liked the inertia bolt system. It is fast and really kicks less than my Beretta did.I have owned both as well as a Beretta A390 and all 3 guns are going to be around for a long time with minimal care ...this is a choice the same as CHEVY vs FORD.. read on this a bit http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/inertia.tpl

Sell them both and get 8 Remington 870,s they are the number one shotgun in the world and most reliable. I've still got my old 16 guage 870.

I would trade it hands down. I have both of them and haven't shot my 391in the last 2 years. They are both very nice guns, so it is a personal opinion. If the 391 is just a field grade, you would come out on the better end of the deal. They both are very nice auto guns, but I think the Benelli actually fits people better than their brother 391. Just my Opinion!

Sell it to him and go get a 20 gauge single shot, a trap thrower and a bunch of shells.
He will appreciate the memories a lot more than a gun that will not be the "top of the line" when he is older.

You've got plenty of responses, but as another M2 owner I thought I'd chime in. I love my M2 and would have a hard time trading it. It is very light which allows me to swing fast on a bird and it's great for long spring turkey hunts. Mine also has the camo wrap on it so I don't mind rough housing it when I'm turkey hunting or laying it down in a duck boat. When I purchased the gun it fit me much better than the 391 so that's why I went with it. It doesn't kick that bad, but it does have the inertia system in it. I have shot a 391 at skeet and it's a real soft shooter as well, probably a little softer. However, I have never noticed the kick that my M2 has anyway. Of course I went to the M2 from a old A-5 and I also shoot a Browning Citori....so I thought the M2 was super soft.

You can't go wrong with either gun though. They are both well made and should last him forever as long as he takes care of it.

If you are going on price tag, the M2 is usually a little higher priced. add another $100 on top of it if it's camo.
