We rolled up to Jerry's and signed in about 6:30am. Heard all the early risers took it down to Savanah's, so we followed suit. Got down there to find the usual locals, but no NFGFC anglers. Me and Avery were in no hurry, so we had breakfast and little dad & son time

I knew it was gonna be LOW at Econfina and Aucilla, so we decided to go try a few spots that have always done well this time of year at Carrabelle. We came across the bridge at OB and there was mud out past the dock at Holiday Campground

I don't ever recall seeing it that low out there.
We arrived at Carrabelle around 8:30am after a stop for some live scrimps. Before backing the boat in, something told me to try to start it first since it had been a few months. Well, 20 minutes later and still no running motor

It would turn over fine, just wouldn't fire. First time ever. Guess there's a first time for everything

So, we went to plan B. Went down to the CBC and got out the 32 footer!!!! There was nowhere near enough water to launch, so we hung out chatting with a few guys that had come in from K Tower. They had 3 nice reds and 2 huge AJ's. I thought, what an interesting mix. I asked if they caught the reds on their way back in from K Tower. They told me that they caught the reds at the K Tower off live pinfish while catching the AJ's. Yet again, another first for me. He said there were reds and AJ's all over the tower. Made me wish that I would have been there.
We finally launched the
bohemuth and headed out to the river. We went north of the bridge and anchored up. All we could manage over the next few hours were trout with scrimp on the bottom and pelicans with trout on the top

We decided to give it a quick try out on the flats near Lanark. Fished for about 1.5 hours from Lanark back to Carrabelle River with not the first bite. Never even saw a fish. I did drop my brand new phone in the water and watched $150 sink to the bottom. Never even stopped to attempt to get it
With no fish to speak of, we tried one last spot in the river on the way back to CBC. I hung one nice red and lost it around the dock. Oh well, we wouldn't have made it back to the weigh-in on time anyhow. Got back to the CBC about 3:30 and had to call JBT to let Casey know we wouldn't be back for a bit. Got there about 4:30 to catch the stragglers and hear who won.
I feel your pain JT about trying Carrabelle and we even got us a pelican too

I hope that wasn't you guys when I flew by the river mouth doing about 42 with the twin 225's running full steam!!!! If it was, sorry...thought I might sling a red your way in the wake
See you guys next month at Keaton
