New EPA regulations on fuel lines

Post by Speedy »

Fellow boaters,
I do not know if you are aware but the EPA has recently passed a new law that requires all boats that are manufactured after January 1, 2009 to have a certain type of fuel line and primer bulb. This fuel line type and primer bulb is low-permeable. All boats manufactured before this date are exempt from having this type of fuel line. Therefore, if you buy a boat manufactured after January 1, 2009 please make sure that you have this fuel line if you want to avoid problems on the water. Also if you take a boat in for service somewhere and they decide to replace your fuel line make sure that they use the same type. Now, from what I understand, you can't use tie-wraps or stainless worm gear type clamp. It is a special type of clamp that does not pinch the fuel line and of course requires a special tool. If someone needs this information I might be able to help them. Just let me know. If anyone cares to read the letter from NMMA on it, here it is:

Happy reading!
