Falcon Rod Tips

Post by mojokoko »

Hey, I just got 3 new Coastal Falcon rods for xmas. When I went to cast one of them last weekend
one of the rod rips just fell off. Is there anyone that can replace those around town? Falcon said it would be
20 bucks and or half the price of a new one if "They find out if it's not a rod defect" or something.

Do you still have the tip?
If so let me know and I can help you out.

It wasn't just what most of us would call a 'rod tip' - it was the last few inches of the rod itself, from the tip down to almost the second line guide, so it was the end of the rod itself that came off, not just the guide tip. It was still attached to the line, so I imagine he has it. I saw it happen and can vouch for the fact that the end of the rod just came off on his backswing and that it never got stepped on, didn't slam into the console or nothin stupid like that at all. I think that happened the day it was 20 degrees when we put the boat in, and it happened very early in the day at our first stop, maybe his 4th or 5th cast ever with that rod I think. It was still prolly just below freezing at the time, so I'm guessing the cold maybe made it brittle, I dunno. Between the two of us we had 5 Falcon rods that were all in the same rod holders in the boat for the drive down, and none of the others had any issues.

Mojo has bad luck with goods and services. especially expensive ones, so it's par for the course that his brand new rod came apart for no good reason. If he ever buys any sort of aircraft, parachute, mountain climbing gear, or anything else that might kill you on failure, do NOT accept any offers for a free trip. I bring my own life jackets on his boat because I'm just sure his fancy ones will sink like lead in the event they're ever needed.

If the blank itself I would send it back to replaced not repaired.
The cold shouldn't have had that big of an effect but it has been known to happen.

About a year ago I bought 5 Falcon Coastals from WalMart for $25 each, 3 of them the tips snapped off, about the last 2-3 inches. I ended up just slapping new tips on them rather than dealing with sending them to Falcon for replacement/repair. Since then all have been great, but at the time I was a little pissed!

Yeah, I was shopping for a mid-range rod there, picked up the Falcon and it rang up at $24.99. I figured it must be a fluke, so I tried another. A few minutes later I walked out with all 5 they had in stock. Nice score!

I think their least expensive rod is $100. Walmart goofed.
