One way to avoid water in your gas

This may not be news to most on here, but I learned something recently about water in gas and seeing BB's problems with water in his fuel I thought I would share it. A friend of mine used to have several convenience stores and sold a lot of gas so this is where the info comes from. He told me that when they push a load of gas for one distributor thru the pipeline, the way they show the end of that load is by putting a bolus of water in the line to separate it from the next guy's shipment. There are systems to remove the water but like everything else, nothing is perfect, so occasionally some water gets in the tanker truck. When the tanker truck delivers his load that water is gonna go to the bottom of the dealer's tank where it will be pumped out first. If the water separater there does not catch it, the first poor old joe at the gas pump is going to get his gas diluted a bit. Lesson is to never fill up car or boat when the tanker truck is still at the station after delivering. Let someone else be the first to get the new gas!

You are dead on about that. Also, when the tanker dumps a tank full in, the flow of the fuel going in the tank stirs up sediments on the bottom of the tank. Much better to let it settle a while before pumping.

That is a true statement, a buddy of mine owns a couple of stations in Albany and columbus and he said the exact same thing.
