New Kayak Fisherman

Post by crew322 »

Hello All,

Just getting into the sport and I'm starting to get an interest in fishing inshore around the Apalachee Bay area. I haven't been out there yet but I plan to go soon. Seems as though the three most common fish around that area are Redfish, Flounder and Trout. Any advice as to what type of tackle/lures/baits to use? Where each fish type may be located? Etc...

Mostly interested in Reds and I've already got a Skitterwalk lure, which I hope to cause some damage with. Anywho, some information on best practices for handling/landing each fish safely would be much obliged as well. Hope to see some of you guys out there!

Also, (couldn't resist) I'd like to take this moment to brag :D and show off my first fish I ever caught from a kayak. This Bluegill was caught at Piney Z lake in Tallahassee (right next to lake Lafayette)

Welcome aboard and congrats on your first fish from a yak. Be sure to check out our local kayak forum at http://www.fcka.net/home/index.html . There, you'll find lots of local info to your questions. You'll also find info on a free monthly tournament schedule designed to get folks together to learn and fish different areas from a kayak. Nice Outback

No, we're just doing our part for the economy.
